Beyond Drills: Basketball Games
Thursday October 29, 2026 3:00pm - 4:00pm CDT
Many students can perform basketball skills during drills but struggle to apply those skills during game situations. This active session will introduce basketball learning games that promote decision-making, tactical awareness, and skill execution under game-like conditions. Participants will experience a variety of small-sided games designed to increase the transfer of learning from practice to authentic game play. Activities emphasize creating space, maintaining possession, offensive movement, defensive pressure, and shooting decisions while maximizing student engagement and participation. Participants will: Explain why traditional drills often fail to transfer to game situations. Identify characteristics of activities that promote transfer of learning. Experience basketball games that develop both skill execution and tactical decision-making. Learn modifications that increase participation and success for students of varying ability levels. Leave with ready-to-use activities for elementary, middle, and secondary PE classes.

Friday October 30, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am CDT
This presentation will share information with participants about the newest and hottest game in Kansas! "Flag Football for girls"! "Let her play" campaign, initiated by the Kansas City Chiefs, ignited girls' flag football club play across the KC metro area and in other parts of the state. In April of 2026, KSHSAA sanctioned girls flag football as a High school sport. This session will explain how you can get your school involved with this all-new program, not only as a competitive team, but also in your physical education classes. We will review the all new curriculum, rules of play and have a better understanding of the history of girls flag football. Come and enjoy this incredible session and learn how to sign up for your free in-schools flag football kit.
